It is one of the top 200 privately held companies in the United States of America, and has over 10,000 employees – though the term associates is preferred. W.L. Gore & Associates

Gore was founded in 1958 by Wilbert L. and Genevieve Gore in Delaware. It currently has offices in over 25 (twenty-five) countries around the world, one of them being in Flagstaff. The Flagstaff office is located at 3750 W Kiltlie Lane, Flagstaff, AZ 86005. Gore is a major employer in Flagstaff’s bioscience sector, and claims that it has helped increase the growth of medical-device jobs since the 1970s.

Some of the technologies and products Gore discovers and creates include medical devices and fabrics – both of which save lives. A material that is used in most of their creations is a polymer called polytetrafluoroethylene, or PTFE. Gore developed PTFE in 1958, and discovered expanded PTFE (ePTFE) in 1969. ePTFE has been used by Gore ever since!

One such opening could be the finite element analyst, an engineer/scientist who analyzes elements and preforms other procedures. Finite element analysts must have a Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, at least five years of experience as a finite element analyst, and knowledge of Abaqus. Medical experience and experience running Fluid-structure Interaction analyses.

Another position at Gore is the supply planner. As a supply planner, you would manage raw material and work in inventory among taking care of other responsibilities. Supply planners are required to have a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain Management, and three years of planning experiences or five years of equivalent work experience. It is preferred for supply planners to have experience in planning in a research and development environment, sales and operations planning, APICS certification, and knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.

Lastly, another example of a position at Gore is the market research specialist. These associates provide public relations support for Gore. Requirements for this position are a Bachelor of Science degree, three years of experience with market research projects, and knowledge of things such as project management methodology, maintaining good relationships with vendors, and experience with relevant software. It is preferred for applicants to have a Master’s degree.


Gore offers several benefits for its associates. For example, Gore offers the Associate Stock Ownership Plan (ASOP) to associates, which provides them with with equity ownership in Gore. ASOP also benefits associates by helping them build financial security for retirement. Additionally, Gore offers many different medical, vision, and dental plans.
